California based waste and recycling firm- Universal Waste Systems, serving Los Angeles County since 1986 has proposed to open a new material recycling facility at its Santa Fe Springs site
WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster) : California based waste and recycling firm- Universal Waste Systems, serving Los Angeles County since 1986 has proposed to open a new material recycling facility at its existing Santa Fe Springs site.
The company announced that the new unit will be set up in 3.5 acres of land, with a maximum capacity to handle 2500 tons waste per day. The approval of the Santa Fe Springs Planning Commission and City Council are still pending. Upon approval, the plant will initially process 500 tons per day (TPD). The proposed unit would accept commercial, green and municipal solid waste, as well as recyclables, construction debris and waste from warehouses. No hazardous or medical waste will be accepted.
Meanwhile reports say that the local residents have already raised opposition to setting up of the new recycling facility on fears of increased noise and odors, though the company officials have clarified that no waste would be dumped outside. Instead the waste would be stored in concrete buildings. The question of odor will never arise as the buildings would have negative air pressure so that air sucks into it when the door is opened.
