Brazil's scrap exports surged 32% in June

The ferrous scrap exports by Brazil jumped higher substantially during the month of June this year. The exports totaled 40,100 during the month.

Brazil's scrap exports surged 32% in June

SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster): The latest statistics released by Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) shows that scrap exports by Brazil have jumped higher considerably during the month of June this year. According to data, the scrap exports by Brazil totaled 40,100 mt during the sixth month of the year.

The country’s exports during June this year were up by 32% when compared with those during the prior year. The scrap exports by the country had totaled 30,400 mt in June last year.

Brazil’s largest export destination for scrap was Asian countries. The exports to Asia totaled 39,300 mt, constituting more than 98% of the total exports by the country. The export prices averaged at $237/mt FOB, which is marginally lower by 2% when compared with $242/mt FOB in May 2015.

The government data also indicated that 16,300 mt out of the 39,300 mt exported to Asian countries were to Bangladesh. Bangladesh accounted for over 40% share of total scrap imports by Asian countries from Brazil during the month.
