The Bureau of Recycling (BIR) Paper Division has expressed confidence that recovered paper demand would continue to grow throughout Asia

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster) : The Bureau of Recycling (BIR) Paper Division has expressed confidence that recovered paper demand would continue to grow throughout Asia.

The overall recovered paper demand is expected to record a strong growth in 2014. The demand for OCC and higher grades of recovered paper would see significant growth. Mixed paper usage as a cheap substitute for OCC will also gain grounds in the next year.

The Chinese annual recovered fibre imports registered a huge jump in 2012. The total fibre imports by the country during 2012 reached 30.08m tonnes, crossing 30m tonnes for the first time. The imports are up by nearly 10% when compared to the total imports of 27.28m tonnes during 2011.

The domestic collection rate of recovered fibre has gone higher during 2012, reducing the share of imports in the country’s total recovered fibre requirement to 40%. The import share has dropped considerably in comparison with the 48% share held by fibre imports in 2005.

It may be noted that BIR Paper Division’s Papyrus prize was conferred on Ms Cheung Yan-the Chairlady of the leading Chinese recovered paper-based paper manufacturer, Nine Dragons Paper Group.
