Battery recycling rate skyrockets in Canadian provinces

MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): The national battery recycling program has registered significant growth in Canada during 2014. The battery recycling during the initial ten months of the year has already surpassed 2013 totals. According to Call2RecycleCanada, the initiative has achieved a new milestone by successfully collecting and recycling over 2 million kilograms of batteries during this year.

Joe Zenobio, Executive Director, Call2Recycle Canada, Inc. thanked the efforts of each and every Canadian who participated in the recycling drive in order to make it a huge success. He called upon the co-operation of general public and collection partners to expand battery recycling efforts across the country.

The collection rates at Quebec, Manitoba and B.C provinces witnessed biggest jumps during the year. The Quebec province topped the list with a total collection of over 950,000 kilograms of batteries during the initial ten-month period. B.C’s collection totaled 420,000 kilograms during this period. The battery collection by Manitoba province totaled 60,000 kilograms during January to October this year. All the above three provinces have surpassed their respective 2013 total collections with two months to still remaining in this calendar year.
