Battery collection doubled in 2013; exceeded collection goal

OTTAWA (Scrap Monster): Staples Canada Inc.- the Canadian subsidiary of the world’s largest office products company and the second largest internet retailer has announced that it has surpassed the 2013 collection goals. The retailer collected 93, 274 kilograms of batteries and 3,084,778 ink and toner cartridges during the year.

Staples Canada provides Canadian customers to drop off used ink and toner catridges at every store. Staples Canada, alongside its national electronics recycling partner, eCycle Solutions, collects electronics in almost 260 retail locations, with 9 locations added in 2013. The company has collected 5,073,392 ink and toner catridges since Earthday 2012.

Along with its partners- TerraCycle and Newell Rubbermaid, the company also takes back writing instruments such as pens, pencils, markers and highlighters.

Staples Inc. had also launched online Ink and Toner Recycling program. The online program enables Staples Rewards members to recycle empty ink and toner cartridges by printing a pre-paid shipping label to send their cartridges in for recycling and receive $2 back in Staples Rewards(R) for each one.
