Bank robber on bail arrested for stealing gold from jewellery shop

MUMBAI (Scrap Monster): Gold worth Rs 10 lakhs was stolen from a jewellery shop in Mumbai. The CCTV footage helped the cops to identify the culprit. According to Police, the same person was arrested earlier for robbing a bank and had been on bail. Zuber Khan alias Sameer, 22, was arrested along with the looted jewellery.

The culprit broke into the jewellery shop in Bandra West. He had covered his face with a handkerchief in order to dodge the shop CCTVs. Instead of switching on the lights in the shop, he used the cell phone torch.

Sameer had done electrical works in the same shop a few days before and hence was aware of the shop interiors.

The next morning, shop owner discovered the theft and reported to police. Police examined the CCTV footage, but could not identify the face. However, one of the cameras had night vision which revealed the face of the culprit. Police arrested the person and seized the stolen jewellery worth nearly Rs.10 lakhs. Another aide of his was also arrested. Both accused were produced before Court. The court remanded them to police custody until September 1st.

According to police, the same person was involved in a bank robbery a few months before. He had tried to break open the cash locker of the bank. Being unable to do so, he had escaped with a cell phone and Rs.10 note. CCTV footages had helped the locals to identify the person. He was released on bail after a few days. It was then that he tried to loot the jewellery shop, said police.
