Average carbon footprint of corrugated and paper industry moderated by 4.8% during 2009 to 2011

LONDON (Scrap Monster) : The environmental impact data published by the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) reveal a further dip in the carbon footprint.

The study points out that the carbon footprint of the corrugated and paper industry diminished by 4.8% during the three years from 2009 to 2011. The average carbon footprint reduced from 784 kilograms/tonne to 746 kilograms/tonne during the three year period. This is in continuation of the 11.7% decrease registered during the earlier three year period from 2006 to 2008.

The dip in carbon footage is mainly attributed to the increased use of kraftline producers. As a result of which, there has been a significant drop in electricity consumption. The pulp and paper mills have made huge investments over the last five years towards purchase of large boilers and turbines to aid kraft cooking technology.

The minimal environmental impact of corrugated and paper has immensely boosted their usage. The products have been widely appreciated both by the industry and by the end-users. Corrugated is 100% recyclable and is the most economical packaging material, which also ensures safety of goods during transit. As per recent surveys, paper-based packaging is the most preferred by customers.
