Arrest made in theft of nearly $10,000 in scrap metal from Colorado Springs businesses

DENVER (Scrap Monster):  Colorado Springs police have arrested a man they say is responsible for stealing metal from businesses along Platte Place.

Daniel Brock, 39, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, trespassing, criminal mischief and theft, police said.

Police had investigated a pattern of metal theft from businesses in the short stretch of East Platte Avenue from Gunnison Street to Tia Juana Street since November. In each theft, the culprit cut holes in a chain-link fence to access the businesses' property. In some cases Brock allegedly broke into the business, police said. He took metal to be scrapped for money, police said.

Police said their investigation tied 19 of the burglaries to Brock.

Police said Brock is responsible for $5,000 in damage to businesses and nearly $10,000 in stolen property.

Brock remains in the El Paso County jail.
