Arcelormittal, applies against Chinese steel imports

The largest South African steel manufacturer, Arcelormittal South Africa, stated that, the government should impose duties on the cheap steel imports from China, as the company is seeking a relief of profit, after three years went straight, with none.

CAPE TOWN (Scrap Monster): Paul O’Flaherty, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, stated in an interview that, the Johannesburg unit of Arcelormittal South Africa, world’s largest steel maker, has already filed a petition to consider imposing tariffs on the flat steel products which are imported from China, the company is also planning to file a similar petition for the imposition of tax on the long steel products also.

Flat steel is the  main component which used in the construction of vehicles, manufacturing of appliances, and pipes, the flat steel products involve, hot rolled coils as well as cold rolled coils. The long steel products are used in  the construction industries, for the construction of large buildings, and also for huge infrastructural projects.

The CEO of the company further stated that, the company has done its duty and has filed the  complaint application, it is now in the hands of the government whether to consider it or not. He also added that, it is a high challenge to fight the market, which contains subsidized products with cheaper products, than the domestic products.
