WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster): The Washington D.C.-headquartered American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) has released the production statistics for the month of April this year.

According to the statistics, the boxboard production declined 3% in April this year when compared with the production during the same month a year ago. Month-on-month, the boxboard production declined 3.4% during April. The production of recycled boxboard declined both year-on-year and month-on-month in Apr ’14.

The total monthly shipment of printing and writing paper declined during the month when compared to April 2013.

AF&PA notes that shipments of uncoated mechanical, coated mechanical and coated free sheet grades increased during April this year. Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments during the month were up 5% over the year. The total shipments during the initial four months of the year were 3% higher when compared with the shipments during the corresponding four-month period in 2013.

Coated mechanical (CM) paper shipments during the month were up 1% over the year. The total shipments during the initial three months of the year were down 12% when compared with the shipments during the corresponding three-month period in 2013.

The Coated Free Sheet (CFS) paper shipments during April this year totaled 313,800 tons, 1% higher when compared with the shipments during April last year. However, year-to-date shipments of CFS remained flat over the year.

The shipment of uncoated free sheet (UFS) fell nearly 8% when compared with shipments during April 2013. The YTD shipment of UFS paper dropped 7% in 2014 over the corresponding period in 2013.
