PRETORIA (Scrap Monster): As the compromising talks on Tuesday failed, the platinum company officials have decided to meet again the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) to settle their R 12,000 wage demand.
Amidst the inflation rates in South Africa spike, the top platinum employers have proposed to raise wages including bonuses and living allowances to R12 500 a month by 2017 whereas the union demands wages per month excluding cash bonuses of R12 500 within four years.
Amplats and Implats, the top platinum employers in South Africa said that the companies could not afford the revised settlement offer, about 55% and 60% of costs. The companies also said that Amcu’s demands seem not practical that would break the industry.
As per the report, the three month strike has beaten the actual life of the employees that depleted their pockets absolutely. Amcu has been on strike against platinum companies to raise wages to R12, 500 for 13 weeks.
