AISI applauds US ITC's affirmative decision on Turkish rebar imports

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The steel concrete reinforcing bar manufacturers has won a significant battle today when all the six commissioners of the US International Trade Commission (ITC) voted in the affirmative on rebar imports from Turkey and Mexico.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) applauded the decision. Thomas J Gibson, President and CEO, AISI added that the body is pleased that the ITC has recognized that the surge in rebar imports from these countries had damaged domestic steel industry.

The Mexican Grupo Acerero and Grupo Simec both will receive high dumping margins of 66.7%. The largest Mexican long steel producer- Deacero will be given a final dumping margin of 20.58%. The rates for all other Mexican rebar producers and exporters will be set at 20.58%. In addition, all Turkish rebar producers and exporters including Icdas Celik Enerji ve Ulasim Sanayi A.S. will receive a countervailable subsidy rate of 1.25%.

The US ITC vote is on the petition lodged on September 4th by a coalition of five major rebar manufacturers- Nucor Corp, Byer Steel, Cascade Steel, Commercial Metals Co and Gerdau Long Products North America.

AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI's member companies represent over three quarters of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.
