AF&PA publishes US paper reports for February

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The Washington D.C.-headquartered American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) has released the production statistics for the month of February this year. The monthly figures suggest marginal increase in U.S containerboard and boxboard production. Also, US kraft paper shipments were up slightly during the month.

According to the statistics, the containerboard production has increased slightly by nearly 4.5% in February 2016 when compared with the production during the same month a year before. However, the average daily production of containerboard has gone lower by 2.2% over the previous month. The operating rate for containerboard held steady at 95.1% in February.

The total kraft paper shipments during February this year have increased modestly by nearly 7% over same month the previous year to 139.8 thousand short tons. Out of this, bleached kraft paper shipments constituted 8.70 thousand short tons whereas the balance 131.1 thousand short tons accounted for unbleached kraft paper shipments. The total month-end inventories increased to 70.8 thousand short tons.

The AF&PA statistics indicate that the US boxboard production increased by 3.3% in February 2016, when matched with the previous year. However, when compared with the previous month, the February boxboard production was down by 6.1%. The production of unbleached kraft boxboard and recycled boxboard production increased over the previous year. On the other hand, solid bleached boxboard and liner production dropped when compared with February 2015.
