AF&PA recognizes Evergreen Packaging with 2015 Sustainability Award

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Evergreen Packaging, located in Canton, North Carolina has won the 2015 American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) Sustainability Award. The 2015 Award is in recognition of the company’s efforts to boost paper recovery rates through their On-Packaging Recycle Use project. This is the second consecutive year that Evergreen has been honored by the association.

According to AF&PA, Evergreen had implemented a series of creative and constructive actions as part of the project which has resulted in increased recovery rates for recycling. The company has also done commendable job in educating their customers and wider public about the recyclability of paper cartons. The company developed an in-house recycling logo tracking system. The presence of the logo in the company cartons has helped customers to easily identify them as recyclable. Consequently, this has led to increased recovery rates, AF&PA noted.

Meantime, John Rooney, President & CEO, Evergreen Packaging thanked AF&PA for recognizing the company with the award. He stated that successful implementation of the On-Packaging Recycle Logo Use Tracking Project reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable packaging. The project has contributed to the sustainability efforts of its customers and has led to increased recycling of cartons produced by them.

The other winners of the AF&PA 2015 Sustainability Award are Domtar (Category: Sustainable Forest Management), International Paper (Category: Water), Resolute Forest Products (Category: Safety), Seaman Paper Company (Category: Energy Efficiency/GHG Reduction), Verso Corporation (Category: Innovation in Sustainability) and WestRock (Category: Energy Efficiency/GHG Reduction).
