10 Bags of Coins Recovered From Temple Pond

MUMBAI (Scrap Monster): Ten bags full of coins were recovered from the pond of a famous temple in the southern state of India. It is said that the recovered coins are worth lakhs of Indian rupees. The coins are believed to be offered by the devotees for nearly three and half decades. The huge collection of coin was discovered in Dakshina Mookambika temple in the state of Kerala in South India.

The devotees said that the coins were recovered from the bottom of the pond during the clean-up operations. Upon finding some coins covered with mud, the temple authorities emptied water in the pond with pumps. The coins collected in 10 bags were safely shifted to the temple store in the presence of temple authorities.

As per the report, the devotees used to offer coins into the pond as a holy ceremony to god and the pond has not been cleaned for three decades. Temple authorities said that the recovered coin collection contain several antique coins those are not at circulation today.

Dakshina Mookambika temple was built around 500 years ago on the lines of Kollur Mookambika temple under the instructions of  Paravur King. This is the only Mookambika temple in Kerala state that comes under Travancore Devaswom Board-the autonomous body that controls all the temples in the region.
