Aluminum sheet is the one of the most widely used forms of aluminum in industry. It is used for drawn products, including cans, automotive panels, appliance housings, cookware, siding, gutters, downspout, sawnings and carports. Aluminum sheet exhibits good formability and weldability as well as a high strength-to-weight ratio, thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance.
Characteristics
6061 aluminum sheet is a popular material due to its strength, low weight, heat resistance, formability and corrosion resistance. It is easy to machine and weld and can be heat-treated without losing strength. Aluminum 6061 alloys are doubled the strength of aluminum 6063 alloys. Aluminum 6061 has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 42,000 psi (290 MPa) and yield strength of at least 35,000 psi (241 MPa). In thicknesses of 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) or less, it has elongation of 8% or more; in thicker sections, it has elongation of 10%. T651 temper has similar mechanical properties. Non-magnetic, Brinell = 95.
Applications
6061 aluminum sheet is used for machined components and parts for heat exchangers, pressure vessels, gussets and automotive parts. The aluminum 6061 alloy is strong, easily machined, and weldable. 6061-T651 Aluminum Sheet - (ASTM B209, QQ-A-250/11) Offers a combination of increased strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability making it the most widely used aluminum grade. 6061 Aluminum Sheet is heat treatable, resists cracking due to stress, is easy to weld and machine, but limited on formability. 6061 Aluminum Sheet is ideal for structural framing, base plates, gussetts, motorcycle & automotive parts, etc.
