Before 1996, the larger Bellingham community had only one garbage transfer station and some of the highest tipping floor rates in the surrounding counties. Local business man Larry McCarter decided to take the risk of building a new transfer station and open up the choices to the community.

Today, RDS employs over 30 local people and continues to innovate in supporting the environment and increasing the communities recycling rates.

RDS started in Whatcom county and continues to be the only locally owned solid waste transfer station. We have always focused on serving Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Sumas, Blaine, Birch Bay, Nooksack and Lummi Tribes, and all unincorporated Whatcom County.
